What Etsy's rule says (in plain words)
From Etsy's House Rules page "Listing Image Requirements", last updated October 22, 2026. Read the full page on Etsy before you change anything.
Most items: at least one unedited photo of the actual item against a real background. Don't use editing software or AI tools on that photo.
Your other photos may be edited (light, color, crop, background) as long as the item still looks like what the buyer gets. Never hide flaws or change the item's color, texture, condition or design.
Patterns, recipes, seeds and similar: at least one real, unedited photo of something made with your product. AI images can't be the only pictures of the finished result.
Also new: Etsy's Seller Handbook says the pattern or recipe itself can't be written by AI.
Made-to-order and custom items: use photos of real, finished items you made before.
Print-on-demand: the stock mockup provision is conditional: a production partner prints your original design on a standard base product, and the stock photo owner authorizes its use. Manually confirm all three conditions and accurate representation.
Digital downloads: show a preview or excerpt of what the buyer gets. Audio and other items with nothing to see may use representative pictures, including AI ones, if they don't mislead.
Run the free check
Think of one listing (or your shop in general). No name or email needed. The result is based only on your answers; the page does not see or check your photos.
Get your listings file from Etsy:
On Etsy, open Shop Manager.
Go to Settings → Options → Download Data.
Download the listings CSV.
Drop that file in the box below.
Your file never leaves your device. It is read by this page inside your browser. Photo addresses in the file are counted as text and never opened. We only count that a check was run and how many listings were flagged (numbers only: no listing titles, photo addresses or shop name).

What this finds: listings that look like patterns, recipes, kits, custom work or digital files (from words in the title, tags and description), and listings with only one photo. It sorts them by what Etsy's rule asks for. It does not look at the photos themselves.
Would a Full Shop Photo Review List be worth $19 to you?
We're deciding whether to build a Full Shop Photo Review List ($19, one time, no shop login): a checklist, not a compliance check. Every listing in your file sorted by which part of Etsy's rule applies, in the order to check them, with a photo-by-photo tick sheet you fill in yourself and a printable list. It does not look at your photos or decide whether a listing meets the rule; you do that.
Thanks, that helps us decide.
Pre-order it free. No charge today; we only ask for an email. If enough people sign up, we finish it and email you a payment link. You can say no then. If we don't build it, we tell you and delete your email.
